Youth Cricket
FAQs
What is the cost to play?
This season there is no cost to play! We wan to bring as many youth players back to the club as possible, so keeping the costs at a minimum is key!
What uniforms will we wear and do we need our own gear?
You will need to wear the club youth cricket uniform that is currently being designed. We are working hard to secure funding to keeps the costs as low as we can. You will need to provide your own playing equipment.
I'm not playing cricket at college, can I play youth for the club?
You must certainly can!! We really want players who may have taken a break or may have prioritised other pursuits to have opportunities to keep playing cricket, and stay connected HDCC.
I can't commit to every game, but I can play some... can I still register?
Yes you can, we know our past players are busy juggling lots of commitments and their school work. We encourage you to register and let the team know what your availability is. Hopefully we'll have enough reserves to provide flexibility.
I'm transitioning to college next season, can I register?
Yes, we welcome players who will be playing in Year 8 cricket this season to register also. This will provide extra playing opportunities for you and a chance to play alongside current college players as you prepare to transition to college cricket.
Are the teams mixed?
Yes they can be, but we would love girls to register in our youth cricket programme also. We would love to be able to field a youth girls cricket team this summer!
Youth Cricket 2024/25 Season
We are happy to announce that HDCC will be participating in Club Youth Cricket for the first time in the 2024/25 season starting on Sunday 10th of November.
There will be two grades, Year 9-10, and Year 11-13. These will be based on the 2024 Year level of the student however there is flexibility for current Year 10’s to play in either grade and also current Year 8’s to play in the Year 9-10 grade as they finish their junior club cricket.
There will be two Sunday fixtures pre-Christmas, a three-day T20 festival during the January holidays, and one fixture in February. Dates have been aligned as best we can with Pathways and Representative programmes to avoid clashes.
Club Youth Cricket Round 1: Sunday 10th November 2024
Club Youth Cricket Round 2: Sunday 8 December 2024
Club Youth Cricket Festival: Tuesday 28 January – Thursday 30 January 2025
Club Youth Cricket Round 3: Sunday 16 February 2025
At HDCC we are working to establish player pathways from Junior to Senior cricket, which recognises the lack of connection to the senior cricket opportunities for our youth players while at college. At HDCC we want to keep all our past and present players connected to the club and our proud history.
Youth cricket provides an opportunity for players to play in a more social format with their past clubmates, learn from our Senior players and provides extra playing opportunities over the summer in addition to College cricket.
Sunday playing opportunities and Cricket Wellington youth tournament
Youth games will be T20s on a Sunday locally across Wellington, with some regional games possible. We welcome all past coaches, managers and parent volunteers to rejoin our club and support the growth and development of our youth programme!
Youth Year 9-10 and Year 11-13
We're hoping to establish a minimum of two teams this season and build our Youth teams in the years to come. Encourage your past teammates, friends and current school teammates. The time commitment will be 3 x T20 games, and 3 days late in the January school holidays.
