Wright Perry Shield
Summer of 2015 saw the inaugural awarding of the Peter J Wright and Elizabeth Perry Shield for the cricket fixture between Wairarapa JCB and Hutt District Juniors. This fixture has become an annual event, played on a home and away basis between our junior development & Youth Girls
Wairarapa was first to host, and 5 games were held at 4 different venues – U/15 Girls played a 35 over fixture at the QE II Oval, Year 7 Boys a 40 over game at Wairarapa College, Year 6 (35 overs) & Year 5 (30 overs) Boys at Park Sports, and Development Girls (25 overs) at MIS. Hutt Districts were the inaugural winners, winning three games to two.
This annual event has now become established in our playing calendar and looked forward to by the club, players and families every season. As the games are played in great cricket spirit and are very competitive matches, displaying the great cricketing talents of our junior players.
Shield History
The Shield has been named after a prominent Hutt Districts volunteer and administrator (Peter J Wright) and a prominent Wairarapa cricketing product (Elizabeth Perry).
Elizabeth Perry, who is Masterton born & bred (attending St Patrick’s Primary & Chanel College), who currently representing Wellington Blaze and has had a distinctive career with the New Zealand’s White Ferns ( 33 international appearances ). Elizabeth has been heavily involved with the development of girls cricket in the Wairarapa province through making herself available for practice sessions and coaching teams.
Peter Wright, spent many years working with Hutt Districts club as volunteer developmenting junior cricket and been involved with the clubs administration for a numbers of years.
